TradingView Alerts: Setting Price and Indicator Notifications
You cannot watch charts twenty-four hours a day. TradingView alerts can notify your phone or email when a chosen price or indicator condition is met.
What is a TradingView alert?
An alert automatically notifies you when a predefined condition occurs, such as BTC moving above $70,000 or RSI falling below 30. An alert by itself reports a condition; it does not automatically place a trade.
The original guide describes a free-plan allowance of one active alert, with higher limits on Essential, Plus and Premium plans. It presents simple price alerts as a way to practice without a paid plan.
Set a price alert
- Open a chart and select the Alert clock icon in the right panel, or right-click the chart and choose Add Alert Here.
- Choose a symbol such as BTCUSDT under Condition.
- Set a condition such as price above 70,000. Choose Crossing, Greater Than or Less Than according to the intended behavior.
- Choose alert frequency, such as a single notification or a per-bar event. The original guide uses the label “Once Per Bar Once” in its description of this choice.
- Enable the desired notification methods: app push, email, popup or sound.
- Check expiration and select Create.
Set an indicator alert
Alerts can also use indicator values. Add the indicator to the chart, then select the indicator instead of the symbol in the alert condition.
| Indicator | Example condition | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| RSI | RSI Crossing Down 30 | Entering an oversold region |
| MACD | MACD line crosses above the signal line | A possible momentum change |
| Bollinger Bands | Price touches the upper band | Possible short-term overextension |
Many indicator values become final only after the candle closes. Once Per Bar Close can reduce temporary signals caused by values moving during the candle.
Alert types and delivery methods
- Price alerts: Reaching or crossing a chosen level
- Indicator alerts: Conditions involving RSI, MACD or other values
- Drawing alerts: Crossing a drawn trendline or horizontal line
- Delivery: Mobile push, email, web popup, sound or a webhook for automation
For mobile push, install the TradingView app, sign in and permit notifications.
Practical uses and cautions
- Set alerts at major support and resistance to notice changes in trends and ranges.
- An alert near a stop level can draw attention to a needed review.
- Too many notifications create alert fatigue. Keep the levels that would prompt a real decision.
Alerts are decision-support tools. A notification guarantees no profit, and false breakouts or sudden volatility can cause losses. Use the alert as a point to review entry or exit conditions, then apply your own capital-management rules.
